As I come down from the highs and lows of mounting my socially conscious Off Broadway play, I shake my head in disbelief of having overcome insurmountable odds. And again I am convinced that if you do what you do without the motivation of personal gain, but the opportunity to do what you love and perhaps make a difference, anything is possible. I not only speak of myself, but of the folks I had the experience to work with. Folks who gave their time and energy, or folks who have been in my corner and continue to lend their talent to my projects. Since last weeks show with guests Gyavira Lasana and Lisa Dixon, dealt with "Blackface in Germany and brought up issues of skin color and performers, it occurred to me that what was discussed were identical to issues I encountered and to decisions I had to make in casting this play. I will discuss these complexities and how they manifested as intended on the stage, and unintentionally off the stage in. These are very important issues facing those who partake in the performing arts here and abroad. Fellow artiste Gyavira Lasana returns to discuss. Lets talk about the journey... http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/zoe-saldana-nina-simone-darkens-controversy/story?id=17555205#.UMAqToPAeSo http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Against_BlackFace_Roles_in_German_Theatre/?crleCdb
